Cascade (When you cast this spell, exile cards from the top of your library until you exile a nonland card that costs less. You may cast it without paying its mana cost. Put the exiled cards on the bottom of your library in a random order.) Destroy target artifact or enchantment.

Cards like Natural Reclamation

Natural Reclamation stands as a solid choice for land destruction and dealing with troublesome artifacts or enchantments in Magic: The Gathering. It joins the historical lineup of green cards, such as Reclaiming Vines, which shares the theme of destroying target artifacts, enchantments, or lands. However, Natural Reclamation’s Cascade ability elevates it by potentially turning a simple destruction spell into a two-for-one value.

Comparatively, Creeping Mold offers a similar level of versatility with the freedom to choose among artifacts, enchantments, or lands. But it lacks the Cascade mechanic and doesn’t bestow the bonus card advantage that often swings games. Alternatively, the card Bramblecrush has a lower casting cost and can also target noncreature permanents but, like Creeping Mold, doesn’t offer that extra card potential that makes Natural Reclamation stand out.

Ultimately, Natural Reclamation’s capability to deal with threats while simultaneously digging deeper into your deck for an additional free spell gives it a unique edge. For players valuing both removal and deck efficiency, this card could be an essential piece of the puzzle in their green-focused MTG strategies.

Card Pros

Card Advantage: In playing Natural Reclamation, the strategic edge comes from the removal of an enchantment or artifact. Not only does it mitigate an opponent’s game plan, but it also cycles itself by allowing you to draw a card, thus keeping your hand stocked and ready for the next move.

Resource Acceleration: Once cast, Natural Reclamation’s cascade ability provides a cascade of benefits, possibly yielding additional spells without depleting resources from your hand. This unexpected value can potentially surge you ahead in a game by efficiently utilizing your mana and unlocking new spells to cast.

Instant Speed: The ability to cast Natural Reclamation at instant speed offers flexibility during gameplay. It provides the freedom to react to your opponent’s actions on their turn, silently setting a trap that unravels their strategy at the most opportune moment without sacrificing your tempo or board presence.

Card Cons

Discard Requirement: One trade-off for utilizing Natural Reclamation is the absence of an additional cost such as discarding, which is often a key balancing aspect of powerful cards, making it feel more balanced in gameplay.

Specific Mana Cost: Requiring both generic and green mana, Natural Reclamation is limited to decks that can produce green mana, potentially restricting its versatility within the broad range of MTG decks.

Comparatively High Mana Cost: With a casting cost of five mana, including one green, Natural Reclamation may be considered less economical when compared to other lower-cost removal options available in the game, particularly in scenarios where mana efficiency is crucial.

Reasons to Include Natural Reclamation in Your Collection

Versatility: Natural Reclamation’s ability to target both artifacts and enchantments makes it flexible enough for inclusion in various deck builds. Whether facing off against Thopter tokens or troublesome enchantments, this card’s reach is broad, catering to a wide range of situations in game play.

Combo Potential: Not only does it deal with threats on the board, but it also fuels graveyard strategies and landfall triggers due to its Cascade mechanic. This allows for additional spells to be cast without paying their mana costs, which can synergize beautifully with other cards in a player’s deck.

Meta-Relevance: In a game where artifact and enchantment-based strategies can dominate, having an answer to opponents’ key pieces is essential. Natural Reclamation fits perfectly in a shifting meta, providing a solution to versatile problems and adding surprise elements into your plays with its cascade feature.

How to beat

Natural Reclamation is a card that emphasizes the ongoing struggle between evolving mana strategies and the disruption of opponents’ assets in MTG. Much like the famed naturalize effects found across the game’s history, Natural Reclamation allows players to target and destroy any artifact or enchantment. It stands out with its cascade attribute, giving players an additional spell cast from their library at no cost—provided its mana cost is less than Natural Reclamation’s.

To effectively counteract this card, players need to adopt preemptive strategies. Keeping a low profile by not playing out vital artifacts or enchantments when a player with green mana is untapped can be key. Similarly, utilizing cards with hexproof or shroud to protect key permanents adds a layer of security against this disruption. One might also consider cards like Pithing Needle or Sorcerous Spyglass, which can shut down triggered abilities such as the cascade effect from activating and limit the value your opponent gleans from casting Natural Reclamation. This approach, when integrated with the right timing and resources, turns the tide against what can otherwise be a formidable disruption strategy.

In summary, while Natural Reclamation brings a powerful combination of destruction and advantage to the battlefield, a well-prepared player can mitigate its effects through strategic play and protective spells. As with many dynamic MTG interactions, foresight and adaptability often hold the key to victory.

Date Text
2021-06-18 A spell's mana value is determined only by its mana cost. Ignore any alternative costs, additional costs, cost increases, or cost reductions.
2021-06-18 Cascade triggers when you cast the spell, meaning that it resolves before that spell. If you end up casting the exiled card, it will go on the stack above the spell with cascade.
2021-06-18 Due to a 2021 rules change to cascade, not only do you stop exiling cards if you exile a nonland card with lesser mana value than the spell with cascade, but the resulting spell you cast must also have lesser mana value. Previously, in cases where a card's mana value differed from the resulting spell, such as with some modal double-faced cards or cards with an Adventure, you could cast a spell with a higher mana value than the exiled card.
2021-06-18 If a spell with cascade is countered, the cascade ability will still resolve normally.
2021-06-18 If the card has in its mana cost, you must choose 0 as the value of X when casting it without paying its mana cost.
2021-06-18 If you cast a card "without paying its mana cost," you can't choose to cast it for any alternative costs. You can, however, pay additional costs. If the card has any mandatory additional costs, you must pay those to cast the card.
2021-06-18 The mana value of a split card is determined by the combined mana cost of its two halves. If cascade allows you to cast a split card, you may cast either half but not both halves.
2021-06-18 When the cascade ability resolves, you must exile cards. The only optional part of the ability is whether or not you cast the last card exiled.
2021-06-18 You exile the cards face up. All players will be able to see them.
