Text of card

At the beginning of your upkeep, you may search your library and/or graveyard for a Shrine card and put it onto the battlefield. If you search your library this way, shuffle it. If an ability of another Shrine you control triggers while you control six or more Shrines, that ability triggers an additional time.

Cards like Sanctum of All

The Sanctum of All is an intriguing enchantment within the Magic: The Gathering pantheon, drawing comparison to other shrine-based cards. Central to its allure is the ability to search for Shrines, which synergizes intricately with the Honden series from the Kamigawa block. Each Honden confers a different advantage, much like Sanctum of All’s support for a varied and powerful Shrine strategy. Unlike the individual Hondens though, Sanctum of All accelerates the collection of shrines every upkeep, heralding a snowball effect that can overwhelm opponents.

Other notable parallels can be drawn with Maze’s End, which similarly empowers a win condition by assembling a variety of permanents—in this case, different guild gates. While Maze’s End offers an alternate win condition, Sanctum of All works to enhance the Shrine mechanic’s impact on the board. Another similar card is Sisay, Weatherlight Captain, which grows stronger with a diversity of legendary spells and can also tutor for specific pieces—much like how Sanctum of All boosts the shrine collection process.

Ultimately, Sanctum of All occupies a unique position, enriching the Shrine archetype with its tutoring and incremental value, and stands out as a central piece in a Shrine-focused deck that seeks to harness the full spectrum of this mechanic’s potential.

Card Pros

Card Advantage: Sanctum of All enables a unique card advantage by allowing you to search your library for a Shrine each upkeep. Gathering all six Shrines can turn the tide of a game by providing a powerful suite of abilities that continuously generate value, setting you up for a substantial lead.

Resource Acceleration: By synergizing with other Shrines that tap for multiple mana of any color or create additional tokens, Sanctum of All can significantly speed up your resource accumulation. This rapid acceleration enables larger plays much sooner than your opponents might expect, effectively ramping up your board state.

Instant Speed: While Sanctum of All itself doesn’t operate at instant speed, it interacts with Shrines that do have instant-speed abilities. This allows for flexible gameplay, as you can respond to your opponents’ actions during their turn while still building your own position with the constant influx of Shrines each upkeep.

Card Cons

Discard Requirement: While the Sanctum of All doesn’t directly ask you to discard cards, building a deck around it often requires enrichment with multiple Shrines. This can sometimes lead to a surplus of Shrines in hand without a way to efficiently utilize or discard them, thus clogging your hand with cards that could be precious action instead.

Specific Mana Cost: One of the considerable drawbacks is Sanctum of All’s specific mana requirement. Needing one mana of each color makes it challenging to cast, especially early on in the game. This requirement pigeonholes the card into five-color decks exclusively, limiting its versatility and accessibility for many players.

Comparatively High Mana Cost: Even in the right deck, the mana cost is a hefty investment. Five mana to bring this enchantment into play is quite the commitment, especially when considering that it only becomes truly effective as more Shrines enter the battlefield. This slow build-up can be a liability in fast-paced games where quicker, more impactful plays are crucial for maintaining momentum.

Reasons to Include Sanctum of All in Your Collection

Versatility: Sanctum of All shines in decks centered around Shrines, acting as a powerful hub that not only enhances the effects of your other Shrines but also accelerates their deployment by fetching them from your library.

Combo Potential: When this card is on the battlefield, it creates an interplay with any Shrine in your deck, potentially unlocking devastating combos that benefit from the shrines’ synergistic abilities, which grow exponentially with each addition.

Meta-Relevance: In a meta where long-term strategies can thrive, Sanctum of All becomes an asset that consistently adds value each turn, making it a game-changer in matches that stretch into the later phases of play.

How to beat

Sanctum of All is a unique enchantment in MTG, anchoring the Shrines deck archetype by amplifying its synergy. This imposing aura demands a strategic response. Preventing its activation is key, achieved either by countering it upon cast or quickly removing it before its ability triggers. Disenchant effects or spells that specifically target enchantments, like Mortify or Back to Nature, can be pivotal in dismantling this building strategy.

Exiling strategies are also extremely effective, as Sanctum of All’s ability hinges on its presence on the battlefield. Cards like Banishing Light or Oblivion Ring can sideline Sanctum of All, granting you time to fortify your own board. Don’t forget about instant speed interaction; it allows you to respond directly to the Sanctuary’s activation, disrupting your opponent’s carefully laid plans.

Remember, timing is crucial. Delaying your opponent just long enough to assemble a winning combination or overwhelm their defenses will tip the scales in your favor. By keeping your deck equipped with answers to crucial threats like Sanctum of All, you can navigate around the potential powerhouse that this card represents.

BurnMana Recommendations

If the varied abilities of Sanctum of All have piqued your interest, bringing together its full potential in a Shrine-centric deck can be an exhilarating challenge. While its mana requirements are steep and its consistency dependent on a multi-shrine setup, those who succeed in constructing a deck around it could find themselves in the commanding seat, leveraging unmatched card advantage and powerful combos. This enchantment is a testament to the creativity and strategic depth MTG offers, rewarding players who embrace the journey of deck-building.
